Another brownfield project successfully delivered.
Wiley recently completed a critical asbestos roof replacement project at a meat processing facility in Queensland. This project exemplifies the challenges and risks inherent in brownfield project delivery, where existing operational environments add layers of complexity that require experience, careful planning, and precise execution.
One of the primary risks was the safe management of asbestos. An asbestos roof presents a significant hazard to a food processing site, as any damage—such as from a storm—could scatter asbestos fibres, potentially forcing the facility to shut down for remediation. To ensure the safety of all employees, complex processing operations, and products, the project was delivered in two stages.
To mitigate risks, the asbestos removal was meticulously planned and executed during a scheduled plant shutdown. Air quality was continuously monitored by a hygienist, isolation zones were established and cleaned daily, and strict safety protocols were enforced to eliminate any potential exposure risks.
Beyond asbestos management, the project also required careful handling of other significant risks, including working at heights, protecting the client’s assets from unpredictable weather, and preventing damage to existing services. Our skilled construction team successfully navigated challenging conditions while maintaining operational integrity and prioritising safety.
The project was completed both safely and efficiently, demonstrating Wiley’s expertise in managing complex brownfield developments with minimal disruption to operations.
